Diagnosing Periodontal Disease
When harmful bacteria infect your gums, they form pockets (spaces or gaps) around your teeth. As a first step in your periodontal care, we will measure the depth of these pockets. Any pockets 4 millimeters or more in size can indicate the presence of an infection.
We’ll also check to see if you’re at risk for periodontal infection by taking a sample of the plaque on your teeth and studying it under the microscope.
