Signs of Advanced Periodontal Disease
- Bleeding or pus
- Receded gums
- Increased pocket depth
- Involvement of deep root surfaces
- Tooth mobility
Examples of Periodontal Surgery
- Bone grafting – use of a “denatured” bone material is placed in areas of bone loss. This surgery can save teeth or fill the holes left by extracted teeth.
- Gum grafting - natural or synthetic gum tissues are used to replace and enhance areas where gum tissue has receded.
- Implant surgery – when a tooth has to be removed, or teeth need to be placed, dental implants are used. Implant surgery is a gentle procedure that places root-like forms in place of previous teeth.
