For some lucky people, there is plenty of room in the mouth for wisdom teeth to grow in naturally. For others, though, the emergence of wisdom teeth cause problems and pain.
When there's no room for your wisdom teeth to come through, they can become impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth:
- Cause structural damage to the jaw
- Cause other teeth in your mouth to shift.
- Provide a place for bacteria to gather.
These potential problems make it necessary to remove impacted wisdom teeth so that larger problems do not arise. Routine x-rays during a dental exam can reveal if you will need to have your wisdom teeth removed.
